Young Ambassadors for Peace – Spreading Peace, Kindness and Harmony at Grange
On Wednesday 23rd September, our newly appointed Young Ambassadors for Peace (YAP) visited the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University for a special day of Peace Education, marking the United Nations International Day of Peace.
The visit was a wonderful opportunity for our ambassadors to begin exploring what it means to promote peace, kindness, respect and harmony within our school and the wider world.
Peace Begins Within Us
Throughout the day, the children explored the idea of “Peace Within the Self” and considered an important message: creating a more peaceful world begins with developing peace within ourselves.
They reflected on how our thoughts, words and actions can affect others and discovered that peace is not simply about avoiding conflict. Peace can be shown through kindness, helping others, listening, showing respect, understanding one another and finding positive ways to solve disagreements.
What Does Peace Mean to Us?
Our Young Ambassadors shared some thoughtful reflections about what they had learned:
Neeyam: “I have learned about making peace and harmony throughout the world.”
Hadi: “I’ve learned that you can make peace and be friendly. Conflict can end and there won’t be disagreements.”
Fatema: “Each time you help, things get better and there is more peace.”
Ranuthi: “It is all about kindness, helping others and showing them respect.”
Sophia: “Peace is happiness.”
Partiv: “I’ve learned that making the world better is right for our world.”
Finding Peace in the World Around Us
The children also took part in a one-minute peaceful moment outdoors, quietly observing and appreciating nature. This gave them an opportunity to slow down, notice their surroundings and think about how peaceful moments can support our wellbeing.
Our ambassadors also explored peace through art. They looked carefully at different paintings and discussed which images made them feel most peaceful. They considered how colour, shape and imagery can communicate feelings of peace without using any words.
Through their Peace Gym activities, the children continued to develop their understanding of calmness, friendship, kindness and peaceful problem-solving.
Bringing Peace Back to Grange
The day gave our Young Ambassadors time to reflect, discuss, listen and learn, while developing a deeper understanding of their important new role.
They returned to Grange with ideas about how they can share their learning and encourage others to make positive choices. Throughout the year, our Young Ambassadors for Peace will continue to look for ways to promote kindness, respect, friendship, calmness and harmony across our school community.
This is only the beginning of their journey, and we look forward to seeing our Young Ambassadors share their learning and inspire others.
Small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Together, we can help peace grow at Grange and beyond.
