Community Litter Picking

Year 6 Pupils Make a Difference in South Harrow

Wednesday 17th June 2026

On Wednesday 17th June, 10 Year 6 pupils took part in a community litter-picking event along the South Harrow Arches route, an area used daily by many of our pupils and families.

The children joined volunteers from Harrow Litter Pickers and worked hard to remove litter and improve the local environment. Armed with litter pickers, bags and plenty of enthusiasm, they demonstrated excellent teamwork and a real commitment to making a positive difference in their community.

This event built on previous work carried out by the pupils. Following an earlier visit, they wrote persuasive letters to Transport for London (TfL) and local councillors, encouraging them to take greater responsibility for maintaining the area. Although the land belongs to TfL, local volunteers continue to work tirelessly to keep it clean and safe.

Following the litter pick, Harrow Litter Pickers contacted the school to praise the children, describing them as “an absolutely fantastic group of young people and a real credit to the school.” They were particularly impressed by the pupils’ enthusiasm, positivity and willingness to get involved.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils for demonstrating such strong citizenship, environmental responsibility and community spirit. Through projects like this, they are learning that even small actions can make a big difference.

A huge thank you to Harrow Litter Pickers, especially Casey, Keith and Kanchan, for welcoming our pupils and inspiring them to continue caring for their local community.
