Community Garden Volunteer Day
Community Spirit Brings Our Outdoor Learning Vision to Life
On Saturday, Grange Primary School was buzzing with teamwork, enthusiasm and community spirit as staff, parents, governors, friends and family members came together for our Community Garden Volunteer Day.
With volunteers arriving throughout the day, teams worked tirelessly to transform both our main outdoor learning garden and the EYFS outdoor area. Together they weeded and refreshed raised beds, prepared growing spaces, painted fences, benches and wooden structures, improved seating and reflection areas, rebuilt the bug hotel, tidied the pond and wildlife area, organised gardening resources and carried out countless other jobs to breathe new life into our outdoor spaces.
The project is part of our ongoing commitment to creating inspiring environments that promote outdoor learning, wellbeing, environmental education and creativity. While there is still plenty to do, the progress made in just one day was remarkable, with both the garden and EYFS areas becoming far more inviting and ready for the next stage of development.
The day simply would not have been possible without the dedication and generosity of our incredible volunteers. Staff gave up their weekend, parents and families rolled up their sleeves, and members of the wider community joined us to help create something truly special for our children. We were also overwhelmed by the generous donations of plants, seeds, gardening equipment and materials, which will continue to enhance the spaces over the coming weeks.
A very special thank you goes to Mrs Watson, whose outstanding organisation made the entire day possible. From coordinating volunteers and communicating with families to sourcing equipment, paint and materials, Mrs Watson ensured every detail was in place. Her dedication and meticulous planning meant the day ran smoothly from start to finish.
We would also like to thank Mrs Ryatt, who has been leading the exciting transformation of the EYFS outdoor area. We cannot wait to see this space continue to evolve into a vibrant and engaging environment for our youngest learners.
The response from staff perfectly captured the spirit of the day:
"We are very far from finished, but we made huge progress today in making our garden and EYFS areas more inviting and usable for outdoor learning."
It was also wonderful to see colleagues recognising one another's efforts, with messages of thanks shared throughout the day, celebrating the teamwork, commitment and community spirit that made the project such a success.
A heartfelt thank you goes to every single volunteer who gave up part of their weekend to support Grange. Your kindness, hard work and generosity have already made a lasting difference. Together, we are creating outdoor spaces where our children can explore, imagine, learn and thrive for many years to come.
This is just the beginning of our outdoor learning journey, and we can't wait to share the next stage of the transformation with our school community.
